This – really very good – boulangerie in the village has just closed down without notice and no indication of why. At least we still have the local superette (which used to be based in these premises – hence the ‘Viveco’ sign), where the bread was better anyway, although not quite a match when it came to patisserie.

I do still have a ‘proper’ camera – it’s in the title of this blog – but nowadays it only comes out for special excursions. Smartphone cameras are now so good for normal occasions, and much more convenient than lugging around an old-school full camera kit all the time.
This is yours truly, hiding behind my iPhone 12.

The monochrome treatment certainly adds a lot of drama to this cloud formation, seen over the Scottish fishing village of Anstruther (pronounced ‘Anster’)

This photo shows a detail from the Roman museum in Perigueux. It’s part of a carefully reconstructed Roman villa which is replete with statuary and carved stonework. However, I thought this crop made for an interesting abstract image when rendered into monochrome.

In France, it is a legal requirement that all doors with external access must have a light above them (although it doesn’t have to be on all the time). This one is above our kitchen door.

There’s a metal five-barred gate that allows tractors to get into the fields behind our house. It’s secured by this bolt, as seen on a very frosty morning.

This tree obviously had a fw years under its belt before it was cut down and turned into logs, like this one from my woodpile.

This baby lamb was intrigued as we walked past their field about half a mile from our house (humans are vastly outnumbered by sheep in these parts).
The tangled undergrowth and monochrome treatment gives an almost abstract feel to the overall image.
