These Boots Are Made For Riding

Last weekend, we went on a voyage (coach trip) to Chateau Montpoupon, near the city of Tours, so north of here but south of Paris.

The chateau has been in the same family since 1857, although it originally dates to much earlier than that. However, as well as the house itself, there’s a very extensive stable area. The family has a tradition of being very involved in equine activities, especially hunting, as this room (and there are several more like it) illustrates.

Bacon In The Making

Not far from our place, a Scottish couple run a farm supplying their own butcher’s shop with free range products.

Testing the waters

This year, we treated ourselves to a new pool thermometer….

Mounting the steps

This set of five stone steps is a feature of my son’s house and that’s one of his mini Schnausers about to climb them.

Stretching Away….

Although the local sheep market is a relatively small affair, it’s still possible to get a perspective of the sheep pens disappearing into the distance.

Boulangerie – Terminé

This – really very good – boulangerie in the village has just closed down without notice and no indication of why. At least we still have the local superette (which used to be based in these premises – hence the ‘Viveco’ sign), where the bread was better anyway, although not quite a match when it came to patisserie.

I’ve been framed

I do still have a ‘proper’ camera – it’s in the title of this blog – but nowadays it only comes out for special excursions. Smartphone cameras are now so good for normal occasions, and much more convenient than lugging around an old-school full camera kit all the time.

This is yours truly, hiding behind my iPhone 12.

Cloudscape over Anstruther

The monochrome treatment certainly adds a lot of drama to this cloud formation, seen over the Scottish fishing village of Anstruther (pronounced ‘Anster’)

Roman abstract

This photo shows a detail from the Roman museum in Perigueux. It’s part of a carefully reconstructed Roman villa which is replete with statuary and carved stonework. However, I thought this crop made for an interesting abstract image when rendered into monochrome.
