The looming clouds and silhouetted trees bring a sense of menace to this image, which is further heightened by the thorns on the branch of a rose bush that cuts diagonally across the frame.

This rose climbs on a trellis in our garden. The petals are pure white, but the ‘working parts’, as it were, are vibrant yellow and orange.
Stuffed And Mounted

Visit any medieval chateau that’s open to the public and you’re almost certain to find a whole array of mementos in the form of stuffed heads – like this example, from near Sarlat in the Dordogne.
I suspect that this is the head of a much-prized bull rather than a hunting trophy.

The peerless Madame is the President of a local charity shop which sells – among many other things – clothes and shoes. So here are five shelves of shoes (and that’s a lot easier to read than to say).
Wherever The Road Leads

Cee’s Black & White Challenge for this week is to show places to walk or hike. Out here in the French countryside the ‘proper’ roads are few and far between, but there are many mysterious-looking tracks, used only for farmers’ access, that are well worth exploring on a country walk.
In this case, I particularly liked the strong shadows of the trees across the path, which look almost like railway sleepers as they recede into the distance .
