“Mud, mud, (in)glorious Mud”

Brits of a certain (advanced) age may recognise the title of this post as being inspired by ‘The Hippopotamus Song’ by Flanders and Swan.

No hippos here in France, but there has been an inordinate amount of rain over the past couple of months, which has left the little chemin down the side of our house in this shockingly muddy condition. Not just a dirt road but a dirt driveway.

Shelter from the storm

Usually, we’re quite lucky with the weather when we go on one of the voyages (coach trips) that are arranged by various local associations. However, on this particular occasion we struck out and it rained - really rained – for the whole day.

Fortunately, on the visit to the safari park we were able to take shelter in this little train.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Rain

Answering Frank’s call for posts on the theme of ‘Rain’ for this week was a bit of a challenge. I’m something of a fair-weather photographer, so if it does happen to be raining then the chances are that I’ll be inside and not out getting wet and taking pictures.

Here’s an acceptable compromise, though. I captured this image in the Hunter Valley wine-growing region of Australia a few years ago. It wasn’t actually raining at the time, but it was just about to.

And how.
