Following last week’s theme of ‘Blue’, Frank has set a double challenge for this week with the subject of ‘Water’. Most people will have plenty of photos featuring water, of course, but in how many of those images is the water blue? And haven’t we just done that?
There is certainly an element of blue in this image, but at least it’s not in the water (and there’s plenty of that). This was taken a few years ago at the Corniche Water Park in Abu Dhabi and shows one of my twin grandsons being fascinated by the jets coming from one of the water cannons.

After last week’s theme of ‘pink’ it’s quite natural for Frank to set us the challenge of ‘Blue’ this week.
I hope this is blue enough for everyone. It’s a detail of the roof of what used to be called the Yas Hotel, on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi – just outside the Formula One racetrack. At night, the colours cycle through the spectrum, but I managed to catch it when it was at its bluest:

Frank’s theme of ‘Alley’ for this week was, you might say, right up my street. I particularly enjoy photographing old -= sometimes very old – urban architecture, so I have plenty of alleyways in my collection.
Very often, of course, it’s impossible to see right to the end of a medieval alley or passageway, which adds a sense of mystery to the image. On the other hand, though, they are also typically quite dark and gloomy.
However, I think I’ve found a compromise here. The island of Burano in the Venetian Lagoon is especially noted for the bright colours with which most of the houses are painted – even those down a mysterious dark alley like this one:

When I saw that Frank had set us the theme of ‘Golden’ for this week’s Tuesday Photo Challenge, I knew exactly where to look in my library.
Here are two images captured in the lobby of the Sir Bani Yas Hotel, on the eponymous nature reserve in Abu Dhabi. The first is a crescent of stone mounted against a golden background:

This second image is one of my personal favourites, and one I’ve used in a previous post. Looking directly upwards, it shows the huge lanterns suspended from the golden atrium. Never knowingly understated.

These three flowers were found in Monet’s Garden at Giverny:

Not quite constituting a wood in itself, this line of trees divides the two fields that lie behind our house. On a clear, bright sunny morning after a very cold clear night earlier this year, the frost on the bare branches was too good to miss.

This week’s Tuesday Challenge at Dutch Goes The Photo is to post an image of something yellow.
I don’t know what these flowers are called, but they are most definitely yellow.

Answering the theme of ‘steps’ this week is this dramatic-looking staircase to be found in the twelfth-century church in the nearby village of Saint-Martial-sur-Isop.
Although the ceiling has obviously been renovated, this steep and winding set of stairs leading up to the roof looks, if not original then pretty old. Not surprisingly, it isn’t open to the public.

For Frank’s theme of ‘Music’ this week, here is a detail of the mightily impressive pipe-organ in the main church of the French city of Thiers:

…and for perspective, here’s the whole thing:

There isn’t really a white horse looking out of an upper-floor window of the Auberge du Cheval Blanc (which you could translate as ‘White Horse Inn’) in the nearby town of Bellac. But it’s a really well-executed trompe l’oeil painting.
