Madame loves peonies – especially pink ones. Over the years we haven’t had consistent success with growing them, but this year there was a bumper crop.

Although we didn’t get any blooms on our peonies this year, it has to be said that they are growing old gracefully. I was struck by the way the leaves had curled up on themselves.

Madame in particular is very fond of peonies. We have three dotted about our terrace, but this year not a single one has bloomed. Now it’s too late, as the leaves are progressively turning from green to a contrasting brown.
