Tale Of A Tile
Posted on January 7, 2021
A couple of years ago, when such things were still permitted, there was an ‘expo’ of hobbies and (in the French sense) ‘passions’ in the village.
One exhibitor displayed part of his collection of decorative tiles, of which this was one of the most striking.

Bridge at Gargilesse
Posted on January 6, 2021
Cee’s theme for her Fun Foto Challenge this week is ‘bridges’. This image certainly includes a bridge, crossing the river in the village of Gargilesse, in central France.
To be honest, though, I think far more interesting is the ‘tie-dye’ lens flare in the top right corner.

The Treasury At Petra

There are few sights more awe-inspiring than the first glimpse of the soaring Nabatean Treasury in the ancient city of Petra.

52 Week Smartphone Challenge: 52 Self-Portrait
Posted on December 27, 2020
Well, we made it. All 52 of the Smartphone Challenges. Although I was naturally reluctant to meet the final brief – a self-portrait “that shows us who others think you are”.
Anyway, Madame thinks that this is a nice picture of me and frankly hers is the only opinion that carries much weight.
Now, that was fun wasn’t it? But what am I going to do next year?

Needing A Lick Of Paint

A few miles outside the town of Beverley, in Yorkshire, is this entrance to an old house standing in its own grounds.

Monday Window: Sarlat
Posted on December 21, 2020
There’s a grand old house, furnished in period fashion, in the middle of Sarlat, a medieval town in the Dordogne départèment of south-west France.

52 Week Smartphone Challenge: 51 Food
Posted on December 20, 2020
The penultimate week of the Smartphone Challenge has the topic of ‘food’.
There’s a (relatively) new boulangerie/patisserie in the village. The baguettes are great, as are the quiches, and last week I tried, for the first time, their Rhum Baba – with overtones of Black Forest Gateau.
It was amazing – even better than it looked. Shouldn’t be allowed.

Put The Flags Out
Posted on December 18, 2020
For Cee’s Midweek Madness Challenge this week, we are invited to draw inspiration from an image posted by guest host Rita. Her photograph includes some flags, so here are three colourful banners spotted during a summer festival in the Auvergne city of Thiers.

Free Holly

Round here, if you want some holly for a seasonal decoration, you just have to go and collect some from the hedgerows.
