This is the road that, about a mile and a half further on, eventually gets to the hamlet that we call Tranquility Base.
The sheep isn’t supposed to be there of course, but it’s not at all uncommon around here to come across one that’s managed to escape from wherever it’s meant to be.

It’s easy to forget that when the majority of ‘medieval’ churches were built, they would have completely dominated the surrounding area.
In France, this is perhaps especially obvious in the northern half of the country, which contains vast tracts of flat farmland. The great cathedral of Chartres, for example, can quite literally be seen for miles around.
In modern times, of course, whole towns and cities have developed around the older churches, diminishing their visual impact. However, in the nearby town of Saint-Junien, the Collegiate church (not, in truth, an exceptionally large edifice) still has some open aspects.
I took this photo while standing outside a Chinese takeaway, which definitely wasn’t there when the church was built.

Apparently, it’s not just electricity and telecommunication cables and sewage pipes that can be found beneath the streets of Limoges…

Here, I’m taking advantage of Cee’s rule that signs are always acceptable for her CWWC challenge.
This is the road that leads into the nearby village of Blond, on the morning of this year’s Christmas Fair.
Note that the sign is upside down. That’s because of an ongoing national campaign by young farmers, who are protesting that the profits from agriculture are too heavily skewed towards the conglomerates at the apex of the pyramid, rather than the actual producers themselves. Sounds legit.

Usually, we’re quite lucky with the weather when we go on one of the voyages (coach trips) that are arranged by various local associations. However, on this particular occasion we struck out and it rained - really rained – for the whole day.
Fortunately, on the visit to the safari park we were able to take shelter in this little train.

The back road up through Chansigaud can be a handy short cut sometimes, depending on where we’re off to. Sometimes, though, the best-laid plans can be thwarted if the local farmer happens to be moving one of his flocks to a new pasture at the same time…

Our local village traditionally holds a ‘vide grenier’ (literally ’empty the barn’ – in other words a car boot or yard sale) on the first Sunday in October.
In past years this has been held on a patch of grass known as ‘Le Camping’, although nobody’s ever actually camped there. Given the time of year, this has often been churned up into a quagmire and it has rained throughout..
More recently, though, the practice has been to close off the main street and hold it ‘en bourg’. This year, the weather was kind and there was a big turnout. Still mostly tat on sale, though.
And yes, there’s a beer tent.

Cee’s CWWC theme this week is autumn (or spring) colours.. Rather than bung up a conventional photo of some trees or ferns, I though I would share this instead.
This is the place setting of a community lunch we attended yesterday (nothing special, just the usual seven courses). The paper napkin certainly had a seasonal look to it.
