Tuesday Photo Challenge: Cat

Frank was probably thinking more about domestic pets for his theme this week of ‘Cat’. However, we haven’t had a pet cat since the late eighties, so we will have to settle for another member of the feline family, rather higher up the food chain.

This cheetah was in the game reserve on Sir Bani Yas island in Abu Dhabi. They’re very elusive (as well as rather noble-looking), so we were lucky to be able even to see one in the flesh, let alone to get close enough to capture a halfway decent image.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Public Transport

Not all forms of public transport are stressful, commuting nightmares. This is the catamaran which ferries guests from the mainland to Sir Bani Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Peace

When we lived in Abu Dhabi, our go-to place for a little peace and relaxation was the Sir Bani Yas Hotel in Abu Dhabi. This was the swimming pool.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Sunset

This giraffe in the game reservation on Sir Bani Yas island in Abu Dhabi has no idea that the setting sun makes it look like it’s wearing a golden crown.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Outdoors

Frank’s theme for this week’s Tuesday Photo Challenge is ‘Outdoors’.

In the broadest terms, I suppose that any image that wasn’t actually captured in an interior would qualify. However, in this shot – another from Sir Bani Yas island in Abu Dhabi – I’ve gone for more of a ‘great outdoors’ feel, which is certainly enhanced by the moon hanging over the landscape.

Touching

A giraffe and her child share a tender moment on the Sir Bani Yas game reserve in Abu Dhabi:

Desert Landscape

Although this looks a little like a lunar landscape, in fact this photograph was taken on Sir Bani Yas island in Abu Dhabi. The long shadows of approaching sunset provide plenty of detail.

The Inquisitive Giraffe

This week, Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge has the subject of ‘Tongues and Tails’. This is something I would definitely think twice about googling while in mixed company.

Anyway….in the game reserve on Sir Bani Yas island in Abu Dhabi it certainly used to be possible to be driven through the giraffe compound and feed the locals through the open window of your SUV, as illustrated here. You can just about see the giraffe’s tongue, which in real life is actually blue.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Rise/Set

WordPress wants to see some images of sunrises and/or sunsets for their latest Weekly Photo Challenge.

I don’t have many sunrises, probably because that would involve getting up early. However, in the past I have posted a few sunsets (all the decent ones, it seems) under various threads, so here is a little compendium of a few of the better examples, beginning with the same view that I put up in response to last week’s ‘Favourite Place’ challenge:

More exotically, this was taken on a sunset cruise off Muscat, in Oman:

and this one in the game reserve on Sir Bani Yas Island in Abu Dhabi – the giraffe enclosure, to be exact:

This, though, is probably the most spectacular sunset I’ve ever captured – just outside Beverley, in East Yorkshire:
