Two roses

These roses in our son’s garden in Oxfordshire were a particularly delicate shade of pink.

Sharing the nectar

I spotted these two bees taking their fill of nectar from one of the flowers in my son’s garden. Looks like there was plenty to go round.

Smell the roses

This is the road that runs through the Cotswold village of Hook Norton, not far from where our son and his family live.

And that’s our grand-daughter smelling the roses outside that spectacularly floribund house.

Dried peony leaves

Although we didn’t get any blooms on our peonies this year, it has to be said that they are growing old gracefully. I was struck by the way the leaves had curled up on themselves.

Encyclopaedic History

Back in June, I took some photos to illustrate the the lots in a charity online book sale. Nobody showed any interest in this admittedly handsome set of encyclopaedias, however.

Finale: Deep Space

Sadly, this is Cee’s final Black & White Photo Challenge as she moves on to new pastures. We should all be grateful for the commitment and hard work she has put into hosting this and all her other challenges.

Rather than try and pick a favourite from all my previous contributions, I took a new photo, because I found the image so arresting. No, it’s not a Hubble Telescope photo of a black hole, or even an album cover from a 70s progressive space rock band.

In fact, it’s a condensation-caused stain from the bottom of a glass that had stood on this slate drinks coaster.

Wall topping

We had a wall built across the end of our field so that we could have an enclosed garden. It’s actually made from breeze blocks, but we used some old roof tiles to add interest to the top.

Now that they’ve had ten years or more to weather in, they have acquired some interesting textures and adhesions, and of course the snail (spot the snail) is obligatory.

The unrequited Peony

Madame in particular is very fond of peonies. We have three dotted about our terrace, but this year not a single one has bloomed. Now it’s too late, as the leaves are progressively turning from green to a contrasting brown.

Power

This electricity pylon on the outskirts of Limoges obviously has some strong lines (sic) in it. However, when I converted it to monochrome, inverted the image and then reduced the exposure of the background sky, the result is, I think, quite er…. powerful.

Floating…

This single geranium petal looks like it is floating in mid-air, but in fact it is attached to the body of the plant by a single, gossamer-thin thread of spider silk.
