This unusual growth was highlighted by the early morning sun shining on a moss-covered ash tree in a corner of our garden.

The moss on this tree looks like an aerial view of a rain forest until the bark of the tree on which it’s growing puts it into the correct context.

It’s too early in the year to be able to say for sure what exactly this moss-covered tree (bush?) is, but it’s espaliered against part of the old ramparts of the town of Confolens – and obviously has been for some time:

I found this moss growing on a tree in the Beecraigs Country Park near Linlithgow in central Scotland. The texture (and colour) of the tree bark is also interesting.

Two envelopings for the price of one here: moss envelopes the stone of a bridge across the ditch just up the road from here at Tranquility Base, while snow envelops the undergrowth next to it.
