Looming Menace

It must be said that the monochrome version of this image of a huge pile of hay bales covered in black plastic does have a lot more impact than the colour original.

Past Its sell-By Date

This abandoned building in the centre of the city of Cahors isn’t old enough to benefit from the preservation efforts that go into maintaining the medieval part, but is no longer modern enough to have any practical use.

What’s Eating Our Clematis?

Some tiny creature obviously took a fancy to this clematis bud before it got the chance to flower.

The Paraglider

This image of a paraglider at the summer Airshow in Blond provides a pleasingly symmetrical combination of circles and curves.

The centrepiece

This is a detail from the centrepiece of a quilt that was shown at an Expo in Nantes a few years ago. It is to all intents and purposes entirely made up of squares and triangles.

Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Flowers

Mediterranean Spurge

This is a close-up view of the intricate flower of a Mediterranean Spurge, a plant I had never seen – or even heard of – before, but which is growing strongly in my son’s garden.

To give an idea of scale, the green ovoid disc of which the flower is at the heart is no more than a centimetre (about a third of an inch) in diameter.

April’s Last Photo

In our son’s garden in Oxfordshire, I was struck by the almost luminous bark on this tree.
