The wool of the alpaca is well known for its exceptional softness – and sells at a premium that reflects this. Although this individual had just been sheared earlier this year, its topknot gives a good idea of the texture of its coat.

Hard to believe that we’re now a quarter of the way through the 52 Weeks Photo Challenge (I think you’ll find that last week’s ‘Street’ was – correctly – tagged as Week 12) hosted by The Girl That Dreams Awake.
This week’s subject is ‘Face’, and who doesn’t have lots of images to choose from to respond to that?
Taken a few years ago, this is one of my grandsons sufficiently intrigued by the camera pointing at him to pause briefly from splashing around in his Pirate Boat paddling pool to stare right down the lens, just like a pro.

Week 12 of the 52 Weeks Photo Challenge hosted by The Girl That Dreams Awake has the topic of ‘Street’.
The genre of ‘street photography’ isn’t really my thing. However, this is probably my favourite street view: the road that runs through our hamlet of ‘Tranquility Base’. In the rush hour.

(Confession time: I’ve used this image before, in a post on my other site. Although, to judge from the stats, you won’t have seen it.)

The latest theme in the 52 Weeks Photo Challenge set by The Girl That Dreams Awake is ‘Round’.
As I’m travelling this week and next, and I’ve never mastered all this Cloud-based technology stuff, I only have access to what’s already in my Media Library or on my iPad. I was therefore a little worried that I wouldn’t have an appropriate photo for the challenge.
Fortunately, though, I do have this image of the wheel of our friend Terry’s pride-and-joy (and immaculate) Triumph motor-cycle, which certainly fits the bill.

(I used another image of this bike for Week 1 of the challenge.)

For Week 10 of her 52 Weeks Photo Challenge, The Girl That Dreams Awake has chosen the topic of ‘Morning’.
Naturally enough, ‘morning’ is often equated with ‘beginning’. When we came to France in 2004 to look for a home to buy we stayed in a gite, from the window of which I took this picture of early morning mist. So it also marks a beginning.

The Girl That Deams Awake has set the topic of ‘Patterns’ for this week.
Most stained glass windows display overtly religious images. However, this example, to be found in the crypt of the medieval church in the French village of Gargilesse, is an interesting exception.
The geometric patterns remind me of Celtic designs (Celtic knots?). I’m also reliably informed – by Madame the quilter (a.k.a. The Best Girl Ever) – that there are very similar quilting patterns.
In another departure from tradition, the colours are far more subdued than in typical stained glass windows.

I wish I could have come up with something a bit more original than a flower for week 8 of the 52 Weeks Photo Challenge being run by The Girl That Dreams Awake. However, the truth of the matter is that pink isn’t really my colour.
However, that’s not to say this wasn’t a very nice pink poppy (complete with wasp) growing in Monet’s Garden at Giverny.

This photograph was taken – as you can see – on New Year’s Day 2012, in the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. It shows the date on both the Gregorian and Islamic (Hijri) calendars, as well as the names, in Arabic, of the five daily prayers (the display alternates with the time that the prayers are to be said on that specific day).

Red features prominently in this image of a vintage car – although the red on the left side of the bodywork is actually a reflection of the car parked next to it, which was all red – but not very photogenic.

Looking through my photo library, I seem to have rather more pictures of sunsets than of sunrises. No surprise there: sunrises tend to involve having to get up early.
Nothing wrong with sunsets though, and this one, featuring the silhouetted line of trees that forms the boundary between our two fields, is a good example.
