This well weathered wooden door is to be found at the back of the charity shop where Madame volunteers. To judge from the framework, it was once a bright red, rather than a dusky pink.

When I ripped off the ivy that was clinging to one of our wooden fences, not only did it leave behind the scars from the clinging menace, but it also revealed a hidden snail, which was probably only looking for a quiet life.

Like arable farmers everywhere, the locals practice crop rotation. A couple of years ago our friend Jean-Claude gave over one of his fields to cultivating sunflowers.
Duck Feathers

I took this photograph at Al Ain Zoo, in the United Arab Emirates. A bog-standard common duck may seem out of place surrounded by all manner of exotic fauna, but its feathers are nothing to be ashamed of.
