Prelude to Prizegiving

These rows of plastic chairs were set out for the prize-giving ceremony at the Doué La Fontaine roses festival. We didn’t stay for that, but as the proceedings were scheduled to start during France’s World Cup semi-final match, I suspect that quite a few of them stayed empty.

Back in July I visited the village of Doue La Fontaine during its annual rose festival. As well as displaying a huge number of different varieties of rose, there was also an exhibition of sculptures made up of roses, such as this deckchair:

Thursday Doors: Doué La Fontaine

Back in mid-July, I went on a coach trip to the village of Doué La Fontaine, in the Loire Valley. The voyage was organised by our local horticultural society (Les amis des fleurs), so I came back with many, many photographs of roses.
