Last Photo: Whittling

Last week, I was what I think of euphemistically as ‘helping’ Madame to reorganise the little crafts corner of the charity shop where she is a volunteer.

I know nothing of crafts and am not ashamed to admit it. However, on the basis that my first job after I graduated was in the Liverpool City Libraries service (a stint that lasted all of six months and ended well over fifty years ago), I was clearly and eminently qualified to organise several large piles of books into some semblance of logical order.

Most of these volumes related to art, needlework, knitting and so on, but there were a few dealing with more esoteric crafts, including this particular one.

No disrespect to all you merry whittlers out there, but I have to confess that I did post this image on our family Whatsapp group without comment but with the caption ‘Shoot. Me. Now.

Last On The Card December 2024

I took this photo as the sun set on New Year’s Eve. Darkness is falling on 2024 but high in the sky an aeroplane is heading south, to a hopefully brighter future.

Last Photo November 2024

The last photo I took in November was this defiant geranium, gamely hanging on in one of our raised beds.

The blooms are low-hanging, but these creaking bones couldn’t face the prospect of having to kneel on the path to get the shot – I might not be able to get up again – so I used the front camera on my iPhone. I think it turned out okay.

(No editing of course, because them’s the rules.)

Free-standing

The last photo I took in September, with my trusty iPhone 14 Pro, was this image of a stone archway in the village of Rancon.

The rules of Bushboy’s Last Photo Challenge are that you present that last photo ‘warts and all’, as it were. In other words without any editing.

So that’s what I’ve done here. However, on closer inspection I was so struck by the image that I’ve also smartened it up for the latest Lens-Artists Challenge. You can find that version here.

Just Another Broken Heart…

Well, a fallen rose petal anyway.

Return of the orange poppies

(Yes, it’s flowers again – deal with it.)

About five years ago we (i.e. Madame) scattered a packet of orange poppy seeds in what we’re pleased to call our garden. For the next three years they went viral – dozens (maybe more – I never actually counted them) of them.

Then nothing last year. However, they’re back again, with a handful appearing in one of our raised beds. This is one of them, preparing to unfold.

Reaching for the sun

This is the last photo I took in March. It’s a view from the back door of our house and I was struck by the way that the sunlight was striking the upper branches of these trees.

It could certainly benefit from some editing but the ‘Last Photo’ rules are clear: this is how it turned out.

Last On The Card: Moonshot

I captured this view of a bright moon, partly obscured by light clouds, on my way to put out the bins. How prosaic.

(My hands must be steadier than I thought: exposure time was 0.5 seconds)

The Sheep Market

The pens are already in place for the village’s monthly sheep market.

All-Day Ovine Buffet

The commune in which we live consists mostly of agricultural land, principally for pasture and mainly for sheep. This particular field is adjacent to the village recycling point.
