About six or seven years ago, we (i.e. Madame) sowed a wild flowers mix in a couple of our raised beds. The most successful of these proved to be the orange poppies. They returned and proliferated for the next couple of years before their numbers dropped steadily and, as I recall, last year there were none. Now, however, they’re coming back and there already five, of which this was the first.

Our back fence was in a bit of a sorry state, so we’ve just had it replaced, exchanging some solid panels for a ranch-style alternative. This has had the very pleasing effect of opening up the vista of our neighbour’s fields with, here, a couple of his horses grazing.
I tell you, it’s like living in the countryside…..

When we bought this house, over twenty years ago now (blimey!), we inherited two large cart wheels, about four feet in diameter, which were propped against the wall in what is now our salon. Obviously they were much too big to remain in situ, so for many years they have stood guard either side of our barn door, exposed to the elements.
Inevitably, their condition has deteriorated, especially since the hubs fell out, with the metal rims following shortly afterwards. That left only the wooden spokes, which are now in this sorry, but texturally interesting, condition.

This is the last photo I took in January, although it was only during a particularly cold snap, as far back as the 5th.

Autumn colours are everywhere at the moment, but this tree in a shop’s car park was a particularly fine specimen, especially in the sunshine.

Spotted in Lidl during their Foire Aux Vins: ‘tomorrow I’ll stop…perhaps’.
(The label also states: ‘wine naturally low in alcohol’. Obviously, I didn’t buy it.)

After a period of strong wind and heavy rain, this oak leaf ended up on top of the wall of one of our raised beds.

This is Poppy, my niece’s chocolate brown Labrador puppy. Daft as a brush, obviously, but here she had found a (relatively) quiet corner during a frenetic children’s birthday party. I was already there….

These white pansies have just returned for another season in one of our flowerbeds (yes it does need weeding).
