After last week’s theme of ‘pink’ it’s quite natural for Frank to set us the challenge of ‘Blue’ this week.
I hope this is blue enough for everyone. It’s a detail of the roof of what used to be called the Yas Hotel, on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi – just outside the Formula One racetrack. At night, the colours cycle through the spectrum, but I managed to catch it when it was at its bluest:

Frank’s theme of ‘Alley’ for this week was, you might say, right up my street. I particularly enjoy photographing old -= sometimes very old – urban architecture, so I have plenty of alleyways in my collection.
Very often, of course, it’s impossible to see right to the end of a medieval alley or passageway, which adds a sense of mystery to the image. On the other hand, though, they are also typically quite dark and gloomy.
However, I think I’ve found a compromise here. The island of Burano in the Venetian Lagoon is especially noted for the bright colours with which most of the houses are painted – even those down a mysterious dark alley like this one:

These three flowers were found in Monet’s Garden at Giverny:

Not quite constituting a wood in itself, this line of trees divides the two fields that lie behind our house. On a clear, bright sunny morning after a very cold clear night earlier this year, the frost on the bare branches was too good to miss.

This week’s Tuesday Challenge at Dutch Goes The Photo is to post an image of something yellow.
I don’t know what these flowers are called, but they are most definitely yellow.

For Frank’s theme of ‘Music’ this week, here is a detail of the mightily impressive pipe-organ in the main church of the French city of Thiers:

…and for perspective, here’s the whole thing:

Freezing fog gives a ghostly appearance to this view of the little road that runs from our hamlet up towards La Motte.
(To enhance the mood, the original colour image has had a Blue high-contrast filter applied in Lightroom.)

If I want to see something old, I just need to look in the mirror. Fear not though, I’ll spare you (and me) a self-portrait in response to this week’s Tuesday Photo Challenge theme, set by Frank at Dutch Goes The Photo!
Instead – and infinitely more interesting – here is an image of a Roman-era funerary statue recovered from archaeological excavations at Argentomagus, in central France. Is it just me, or does he look like he’s wearing a beanie hat?

All the most interesting streets have a bend in them so you can’t see where they’re leading to – like this one in the old part (Cité) of Carcassonne, in southern France:

This week, Frank of Dutch Goes The Photo! has gone off on his holidays so, appropriately, has selected the theme of ‘travel’ for his latest Tuesday Challenge.
It’s a very broad theme, of course; as Frank says, travel could be anything as mundane as a daily commute. However, I’ve selected a rather more exotic image that tries to convey ‘travel’ as the state of being somewhere very different from what you’re used to.
I’ve been very fortunate to have been able to travel quite extensively, for both business and pleasure. The first doesn’t count so much perhaps, but for somewhere very different – in terms of both place and time – one of my all-time favourite places has to be Petra. It’s one of the most photographed locations on the planet, but at least this isn’t a photograph of the iconic Nabatean Treasury (although there are a few photographs of that particular edifice elsewhere on this blog if you care to look).
