Monday Window: Beverley
Posted on April 13, 2020
Admittedly, it’s not the windows but rather the painted ceiling that’s the main point of interest here in this image from St. Mary’s church in Beverley, East Yorkshire. However, they are quite impressive in their own right….

Up in the clouds
Posted on April 10, 2020
‘Anything with an engine’ is Cee’s topic for her Black & White Challenge this week. So here’s a light plane showing its paces at the annual ‘Estevol’ air show near Blond.
This is an image which works much better in monochrome than colour, thanks mainly to the enhanced contrast of the plane with those big clouds.

Lobster Pots
Posted on April 8, 2020
One of the possible subjects for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge this week is ‘fishing items’.
I saw this pile of artfully positioned lobster pots on the quayside in St Andrews, in Scotland. Those figures are standing on the seawall on the other side of the harbour: the lobster pots aren’t that big.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Travel

In the desert outside Al-Ain, in the United Arab Emirates, various modes of travel are on offer. Having ridden (albeit briefly) a camel – an interesting, if rather unsettling, experience – personally I’d stick to the road.

Above a narrow alleyway in the picturesque town of Sarlat, in the Dordogne, is this old and elaborately decorated window.

52 Week Smartphone Challenge: 14 Centre Frame
Posted on April 5, 2020
This week’s challenge calls for an image with the subject in the centre of the frame that somehow portrays loneliness.
Tricky. Clearly, isolating the subject is a sine qua non in order to achieve the required mood, but for the additional poignancy of loneliness here is a broken egg, which must have been stolen from a nest, most likely by a predatory bird which then dropped it.

The old cart
Posted on April 3, 2020
When we bought our ruin house, there was a deconstructed old cart in what we now call our ‘Salon’ but was then a dirt-floored room that had probably housed livestock back in the day.

Not for the faint-hearted

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is iconic. It’s possible to take a guided tour of the superstructure, as these hardy souls have. No thank you: sea level is just fine with me.
