Thursday Doors: If it’s Thursday it must be Perigueux – again
Posted on August 29, 2019
I promise faithfully that there will come an end to this steady stream of doors from the town of Perigueux, in south-west France.
But not this week…or next week, come to that.
However, in the interests of balanced reporting, this time we feature three arched doors and three rectangular ones, all with their individual character, I’d venture to say.
Starting with the arched doors, this one seems to be looking straight back at me:

Whereas this one just looks put upon and generally world-weary:

while this one just seems denied of any basic respect:

Those doors with squarer shoulders fare a little better:

but not much:

Nice, finally, to see one ready to stand up to the challenge:

Looking down on St-Germain-de-Confolens
Posted on August 28, 2019
The very photogenic nearby village of St-Germain-de-Confolens is dominated by the old chateau that towers over it. If you can manage the hike up to the top, the views are very worthwhile.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: City
Posted on August 27, 2019
For Frank’s theme of ‘City’ this week, here is the view from the balcony of our apartment at sunset. The traffic wasn’t usually quite so bad, but it was National Day.

Wooden walkway, Burano

Thursday Doors: Still Perigueux
Posted on August 22, 2019
The gift that keeps on giving – another selection of doors from the recently discovered cache of photographs I took in the town of Perigueux last year.
It seems to be a quite popular thing to have doors made of asymmetric lengths of wood, which must be an OCD nightmare:

Those two have obviously recently had a fresh coat of varnish, which you couldn’t say for this:

Two contrasting doors side by side:

I admit, this shot is more about the autumnal colours (it was taken last October) than the door, but there’s definitely one in there:

However, this is my favourite from this week’s gallery:

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Key
Posted on August 21, 2019
Frank’s challenge this week has the theme of key. Rather rarer than the locks or keyholes that they marry up with, but I did find this impressive set, which must once have belonged to the chatelaine, in an old house in the Dordogne which is now a museum.

Lift your eyes towards the heavens

The eye-level architecture was impressive enough, but where could it be more appropriate and rewarding to look up than in a church like this one in Azay-le-Ferron?
