Cee’s theme for her Black & White Challenge this week is shadows and reflections. You’re more likely to get just one or the other in a single image, but this picture of a well-preserved stone sarcophagus in the cloister of the local museum at Perigueux manages to combine the two thanks to the strong shadow cast by the bright sunlight and the reflection of yours truly (sadly, rather less well=preserved).

This window is in the back wall of our neighbour Bernard’s barn. Reflected in it are the camellias that festoon the garden fence of my mother’s little house.

Judy at Lifelessons has had the brilliant idea of posting the last image from either your SD card or phone. As she says, it’s something to pass the time while we’re all in solitary confinement in isolation.
This, from my iPhone, is one of the model boats (pleasingly, the other is blue) that one of our neighbours floats onto the pond at the centre of our little hameau when the water level permits. As it’s rained more or less constantly since September, that is no constraint.

This is week 8 of the Smartphone Challenge being hosted by Khürt at islandinthenet.com, and we are looking for Leading Lines – more specifically, how they can be used to show the concept of infinity.
In the nearby town of Confolens there is a little bridge over a small tributary of the Vienne river. The parapet on the right provides a leading line, while the bridge itself, as well as providing an interesting reflection (itself a nod to the concept of infinity) obscures the course of the river, adding an element of mystery to the image.
Or something like that.

Week 5 of Khurt’s 52-Week Smartphone Challenge has the theme of ‘symmetry’. Reflections are always a good place to start when seeking symmetry, and bodies of water are always a good place to find reflections.
This pond is just across the road, about a hundred feet from our front door. It was completely dry back in the summer, but it’s done very little except rain here since late August, so it’s now an impressive little body of water.

Frank’s theme for this week is ‘fantasy’. I suppose one way of defining that is as something that doesn’t actually exist but you would quite like it if it did.
The possibilities are almost endless, but on a very still day on the River Charente in the Dordogne there’s more than a suggestion of fantasy about the reflections of the riverbank.

There’s an abstract, almost painterly feel to this image of trees reflected in a nearby pond:

At the Chateau Azay-le-Ferron, in the Indre département of central France, this bust of a former owner sits on a mantelpiece in front of a mirror that gives away some of the secrets of its construction.

Frank has set the theme of ‘Worship’ for the Tuesday Photo Challenge this week.
Always pleased to have an opportunity to showcase one of the most visually stunning places of worship you’re ever likely to see – he Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi

Being fortunate enough to live where we do, in the rural Limousin region that is part of ‘la France profonde’, finding a tranquil image to meet Frank’s Tuesday Photo Challenge is not exactly a problem.
However, my go-to place around here for tranquility (apart from home itself) is down by the River Vienne in Confolens on a calm sunny day, where the Pont Vieux casts flawless reflections like these:
