I took this photo as the sun set on New Year’s Eve. Darkness is falling on 2024 but high in the sky an aeroplane is heading south, to a hopefully brighter future.

I captured this view of a bright moon, partly obscured by light clouds, on my way to put out the bins. How prosaic.
(My hands must be steadier than I thought: exposure time was 0.5 seconds)

Plenty of air traffic overflying here, close to the very centre of France.

The bluest of blue skies above the town of Perigueux.
This image has been cropped but is otherwise completely unretouched: the sky really was that blue.

A particularly dramatic sky early one recent morning. You expect the chemtrails from overflying aeroplanes to be straight, of course, but on this occasion the clouds seemed to be as well.

Still away from base, so still reliant on the back catalogue to respond to Frank’s latest theme, of ‘Sky’.
This was originally posted as the ‘after’ image of a largely unregarded post-processing challenge a couple of years ago.
The photograph was taken at sunset in the giraffe compound on the Sir Bani Yas game reserve in Abu Dhabi. Because the island is largely desert and this was well inland, the sky was not in the usual blue to purple part of the spectrum.

The original image for this month’s One Photo Focus was taken by David Croker and is a lovely shot of peaceful serenity; who doesn’t like the combination of sky, water and reflections?

The only problem with this original is that the air of tranquility is jarred somewhat by the electricity pylons running right across the horizon. I realise that it’s possible to remove such intrusions through various photo editing programs, including Photoshop, which I have myself, but it looks like a very painstaking exercise, particularly if (a) you haven’t done it before and (b) when there are not only wires but also the pylons to be erased.
Then I recalled that for a WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge some time ago, with the theme of ‘Dreamy‘, I had used a reflected image to get the dreamlike look that the assignment called for, and I thought it had worked quite well.
Accordingly, I adopted the same principle for this One Photo Focus, to produce this:

Here’s what I did:
I’m quite pleased with the dreamy, painting-y effect of this revised version
