Serenity

Calm, peaceful and untroubled? Oh yes.

This photograph was taken at the resort hotel on Sir Bani Yas in Abu Dhabi. We were just about the only guests there (it hadn’t been open for very long), which just added to the tranquility.

I particularly like the additional elements of serenity in the foreground: the infinity pool, what could almost be a Zen garden, the reflection and the curves.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Shadowed

Can you see what it is yet? This is a ‘doctored’ detail – complete with shadows – of the roof of a villa at the Sir Bani Yas Hotel in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

To put it into context, here’s another image:

Weekly Photo Challenge: Warmth

“Warmth” certainly gives plenty of scope for interpretation.

Below is one take on it: an image from a few years ago of a very small and very warm grandson surrounded by very warm colours in a children’s playground in Abu Dhabi (it was October: trust me, it was warm).

For a completely different take on “warmth”, here is my contribution on this topic for last month’s ‘Photography 101’ challenge.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Yellow

To fit this week’s theme, another image from the inexhaustible fount of photographic possibilities that is Dubai Mall. This one is a lantern, or chandelier if you prefer. I placed the camera on the floor and hovered around it protectively while the exposure was made.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Twinkle

Another image from Dubai Mall, this one of an ornamental pool on the way down to the underground car park (it’s Dubai, what do you expect?)

Weekly Photo Challenge: Gone But Not Forgotten

A discarded flower, perhaps given added poignancy by the fact that it had been a buttonhole worn at a wedding I attended last summer.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Angular

This is the very imposing (and very angular) exterior of St Mary’s Church in Beverley, East Yorkshire.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Minimalist

This is a picture I took a few years ago as part of my ‘homework’ assignment for a weekend photography course I was taking in Abu Dhabi.

The course leader didn’t particularly care for it, but I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for it and it seems to fit this week’s brief.

It’s a candle (well, duh) with a convex reflector behind it, which produced the – I think –  interesting curlicue of light.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Cover Art

Over at my other place, I’ve written about Leonard Cohen and this challenge seemed like a good opportunity to use this image of an impending rainstorm as an alternative cover for his first album. If you’re at all familiar with his work – especially the early years – you’ll know what I mean.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Refraction

Last summer my grandson was blowing bubbles in our garden…
