Fountain

This fountain, with its abstract design, is to be found in the formal landscaped gardens of Chateau Villandry, in France’s Loire Valley.

The Water Pump

The French equivalent of the Fire Brigade is the Sapeurs Pompiers. At last October’s Expo in Mézières-sur-Issoire, the local Pompiers put on a display of some of their ‘veteran’ equipment, including this mobile water pump that dates from 1949.

The Swan

This swan was sailing, as majestically as only swans can, on the waterway that runs through the formal gardens of Chateau Villandry.

One Horse Or Two?

I took this photograph a couple of years ago at a ‘Spectacle’ featuring birds of prey in nearby St-Germain-de-Confolens.

The answer to the rhetorical question in the title is actually ‘two’, although the optical illusion is that it’s just a single horse, albeit one with a very long neck. Either way, I think the image is quite striking.

The Railway Station, Beverley

The railway station at Beverley, in East Yorkshire, retains much of its original, Victorian architectural features. A view from the level crossing on a quiet Sunday morning gives a slightly different perspective from the one travellers usually see.

Little Feet

My twin grandsons were born very prematurely – and tiny. Even after a couple of months they were still very small, as you can tell from this image.

Wild Flower Monochrome

It’s that time again…

Cee’s Black & White Challenge Theme this week is ‘flowers’, so here is an example from a mix of bee-friendly wild flowers that we sowed last year in one of our raised beds. In real life, it was an attractive shade of magenta, but the monochrome highlights the textures.

Clock Watching

For this week’s Black & White Photo Challenge, Cee has asked for an image of anything that ends in ‘ock’.

I do have a picture of the large black rooster from the farm just up the road, but making the post title fit the brief and at the same time observe propriety was too problematic.

Instead, here is an entirely respectable photograph taken from inside the clock tower of the Musée d’Orsay in Paris. If you’re wondering why a museum should have a clock tower, in this case it’s because the building used to be a railway station.

Window Shopping

The town of Thiers, in the Auvergne region, is known as the cutlery centre of France. It’s not surprising, therefore, that there are quite a few window displays like this one:
