Tuesday Photo Challenge: Old

This week, Frank at Dutch Goes The Photo! has returned to the theme of ‘Old’.

As this year is, of course, the centenary of the end of World War I, this image seems appropriate. It is a French Army helmet of the period, now housed in the Museum at the Chateau des Ducs in Nantes.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Delicious

The freshly-caught sea bass on display at the Rialto fish market in Venice looked absolutely delicious.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Circle

The Bénédictins railway station in the city of Limoges has been voted the most beautiful train station in Europe. It’s not bad, that’s for sure. This is the skylight in the dome that covers the main hall. I think it meets with Frank’s theme this week of ‘Circle’.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Recycle

Frank’s theme this week is ‘Recycle’, so this image works on two levels, I think.

Firstly, it’s an image of a poubelle – a rubbish bin – left out for emptying, and presumably recycling, in the next hamlet along from here.

Secondly, the image is itself recycled, because I’ve used a monochrome version before, in a post to Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge a year or so ago.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Quotidian

For this week’s Tuesday Challenge, Frank at Dutch Goes The Photo! has set the theme of ‘quotidian’, in the sense of the normal everyday that could, in photographic terms, repay a closer view or a different perspective.

What could be more humdrum than a drain, you may wonder? But this drain-cover in the gutter of a street in Chabanais is surely worth a second glance, not only for the interesting structure of the ironwork, but also for the contrast provided by the autumn leaves that have become trapped in it.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Pets

Frank’s theme this week is ‘Pets’. I don’t have pets, but my children do. This is quite possibly the most pampered dog in the world. Her name is Monza, she’s a mini Schnauser and she belongs to my son and daughter-in-law, who dote on her.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Season

This week’s Tuesday Photo Challenge, as set by Frank at Dutch Goes The Photo!, is ‘Season’ and, as he points out, that can mean more than one thing.

In terms of weather, a sure sign of the changing of the seasons is the first frost of the year – it might still officially be autumn but there can no longer be any doubt that winter is on its way.

We had our first frost of the year a good few weeks ago, which produced some interesting, almost abstract, images in our herb bed – so there’s the other meaning of ‘season’.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Message

A month or so ago, during the school half-term holiday, we went with our ten-year old grandsons to an indoor climbing centre.

This photograph was taken with an (old) iPhone, so not the best quality, but it certainly conveys a message to match Frank’s theme for this week.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Build

What you see here is one of the towers of the new Queensferry Crossing road bridge across the Firth of Forth just outside Edinburgh, while it was under construction. That should qualify for Frank’s theme of ‘Build’ for this week’s Tuesday Photo Challenge.

Considering that this photograph was taken with a mobile phone through the window of a car travelling at 50 mph – over the old road bridge – I don’t think it’s too bad.

This is what the finished article looks like; it’s stunning:

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Progress

Out here in the French countryside, many things are still done as they have been for generations – working off the lunar calendar, for example. However, the local farmers are by no means averse to using technology to make their life a bit easier.

So the horses have been put out to grass and the heavy work is now done with tractors. And that’s progress.

Just ask the horse.
