Regular viewers of these weekly posts may have noticed that I alternate between religious and secular windows. On this particular Monday it’s time for a massive display of stained glass, here ifrom the recently refurbished cathedral in the city of Nantes.

When we were house-hunting in France we saw quite a few of what we described as ‘Marie Celeste ‘ properties – houses that seemed to have been frozen in time as their inhabitants just upped and left.
This was one of them. I cannot remember where it was but I do know we didn’t buy it.

An obviously restored but none the less accomplished stained glass window from the medieval church in the town of Confolens. If you look closely it is possible to see that it wasn’t actually in situ, but rather was resting on the wooden floor, propped up against a wall.

Just over 50 yards from our house in the little hamlet that I refer to as Tranquility Base is this small window in – for want of a better word – a shed. It belongs to a couple who spend the summer here (although not in the shed).
Does anybody else see the resemblance to a cartoonish human face?

Although this window is part of the edifice of one of the grandest buildings in Bruges, it’s a little surprising to find it at the end of a very narrow and nondescript alleyway.

This week it’s the turn of stained glass for Khürt’s Monday Window challenge.
This is one of the biggest windows you’ll see anywhere: the rose window in the Cathedral of Chartres.

The nearby town of Le Dorat hosted the ‘Mondial de Tonte’ (that’s the world sheep-shearing championships) back in July. For such an occasion, the place was, naturally, ‘en fête’, with most shop doors and windows being decorated with amusing pictures such as this one:

Exceptionally rich colours in this stained glass window of the church in Azay-le-Ferron.

I spotted this charming little window, with its photogenic freshly-painted shutters, in the town of Aubusson.

This ‘secular’ stained glass window clearly isn’t contemporary with the medieval church in Chauvigny where it can be found – but that doesn’t make it a bad thing.
