52 Weeks Photo Challenge: Week 22 – Nature

The 52 Week Photo Challenge is back after its brief year-end hiatus and the topic for Week 22 is ‘Nature’. That’s certainly something that leaves plenty of scope, but I decided to go with something that’s typical for the time of year.

This is a detail from one of the oak trees in my fields. We are in the depths of winter, so obviously last year’s leaves are dead, but at the same time you can see the buds that will produce new leaves when spring arrives.

Macro Moments: Week 24 – A slice of fungus

It’s by no means unusual to see strange and rather sinister things growing on tree trunks. However, this fungus was unusual in that it looked as if somebody had cut a segment out of it, revealing the dark, almost liverish, interior – which was, if anything, even more unsettling.

This photograph was taken in the garden of George Sand’s house at Nohant, in central France.

52 Weeks Photo Challenge: Week 14 – Winter

As it happens we woke up this morning to our first significant frost of the year – a sure sign that winter is on its way. It had all thawed before I could get my camera out, but here’s a winter scene that I photographed a couple of years ago during a walk ‘around the block’ (about three miles). The low sun on the barren tree in the foreground made the whole image stand out for me.

52 Weeks Photo Challenge: Week 5 – Sunset

Looking through my photo library, I seem to have rather more pictures of sunsets than of sunrises. No surprise there: sunrises tend to involve having to get up early.

Nothing wrong with sunsets though, and this one, featuring the silhouetted line of trees that forms the boundary between our two fields, is a good example.

Monochrome Mistletoe

The subject for Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge this week is Trees. Here’s an image of some mistletoe-laden oak trees in a nearby lane. Tilting the camera so that the trees appear diagonally adds a little drama to the image, I think.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Landscape

Not far from here, if you go down a country lane and then take the lane that leads off that, you will come across this tranquil landscape:

Reach for the sky

Taken on a Boxing Day walk in 2013, this image shows the bare branches of an oak tree against the sky.
