The Poppies Are Back
Posted on June 2, 2021
A couple of years ago, we (which is to say Madame) sowed a pack of wild flower seeds at the back of the house. Included in the mix were some orange poppies and they just won’t quit.

Five Shelves Of Shoes
Posted on May 28, 2021
The keyword for Cee’s Black & White Challenge this week is ‘five’.
The peerless Madame is the President of a local charity shop which sells – among many other things – clothes and shoes. So here are five shelves of shoes (and that’s a lot easier to read than to say).

Sure As Eggs…

Cee’s Midweek Challenge seeks a subject that contains the letter G.
This box of fresh eggs comes from the local village ‘superette’. It’s run by two sisters, one of whom is married to a farmer, so it’s a great place for local farm produce, and the eggs are always ultra-fresh.

Wherever The Road Leads

Cee’s Black & White Challenge for this week is to show places to walk or hike. Out here in the French countryside the ‘proper’ roads are few and far between, but there are many mysterious-looking tracks, used only for farmers’ access, that are well worth exploring on a country walk.
In this case, I particularly liked the strong shadows of the trees across the path, which look almost like railway sleepers as they recede into the distance .

Abstract Tapestry

This abstract tapestry hangs in the Museum of Tapestry in the town of Aubusson. Predominantly black and white(ish), it’s leavened by a few splashes of colour.

Architectural Incongruity

I was struck by the incongruity of the balcony plonked in the middle of this house in the village of Lesterps.

The Bus Came By

‘Purple’ is the theme for Cee’s latest Midweek Challenge. Since I dished up some purple wisteria not so long ago, I looked beyond flora for inspiration.
I found it in this quilt, which was on display at an exhibition in Nantes a few years ago. The subject is naturally appealing for one such as me, and there is definitely purple in it.

Repurposed

There is still an extensive medieval centre in the the city of Limoges although, unlike in many other places, the old buildings are still in active use with more up-to-date shops and businesses.
