Monday Window – Saint Martial sur Isop
Posted on March 30, 2020
Stained glass again this week, and another window from the old church in the nearby village of Saint Martial sur Isop. The image also gives a good idea of the thickness of the walls.

52 Week Smartphone Challenge: 13 – Beginnings
Posted on March 29, 2020
One quarter of the way through the 52 Week Smartphone Challenge and the theme is ‘Beginnings’. Which may seem a bit late, but in terms of nature the timing is spot on.
New life is beginning everywhere – including on our laurel bushes. We’re never short of a bayleaf when the recipe demands one.

The Eyes Have It

Cee’s topic this week is birds. As selective colour is permitted – and, I think, really works in this case – here is an owl (I’m afraid I cannot remember what kind).
The plumage is black and white in any case, so all I had to do was desaturate the greens in the background. Those orange irises are really very striking.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Connect
Posted on March 24, 2020
Frank’s theme for his Tuesday Photo Challenge this week is ‘Connect’: a poignant topic in the current times.
This image was taken from a hill on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Look carefully and you can see all three of the bridges that connect Edinburgh to the Kingdom of Fife.
Oh, and that white thing in the air on the left is an aeroplane. Remember them?

Monday Window – Bonnefont
Posted on March 23, 2020
Even by local standards, the small settlement of Bonnefont is well off the beaten track, albeit only about twenty minutes away by car.
It’s worth the trip, though, if only for this exceptionally photogenic old window.

52 Week Smartphone Challenge: 12 Trash
Posted on March 21, 2020
We recently made a trip to our local dechetterie – recycling centre – to relieve ourselves of some accumulated trash. The packaging (cartonnage) goes into a covered container – because nobody wants soggy cardboard.
I would just like to point out that by no means all of this is ours. Although, on the other hand, I hadn’t realised how much stuff we get from Amazon.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Spread
Posted on March 18, 2020
Frank’s theme for this week is ‘Spread’.
Before we retired to France, we came over for a few weeks each summer to see how the renovations of Brokedown Palace were coming along. We generally stayed at a Chambre d’Hôte in nearby Le Dorat.
One weekend while we were there, however, the place was being used for a wedding reception, and since our room overlooked the garden in which it was being held, they were good enough to invite us. It was quite a spread…

Mural in the Chapel of St Blaise
Posted on March 18, 2020
Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge for this week gives me the opportunity to post another image taken in the Chapel of St Blaise in Pompadour. This follows on from this week’s Monday Window Challenge.
As a reminder, for the next few weeks Cee is asking us to pick up on an element of a photo she herself has posted. As the relevant image contains a mural, here is the dramatic painting behind the altar in St Blaise’s. The whole of the interior – walls and ceiling, totalling some 300 square metres – is covered in similar images with the same colour scheme. It’s not the Sistine Chapel, but it is certainly quite spectacular in its own way.
