Reflections are one of my favourite photographic subjects and I have posted quite a few here. Many of these have been of the River Vienne as it flows through the nearby town of Confolens and here’s another one, previously unseen.

Another image – this time in monochrome as a response to Cee’s latest Black & White Photo Challenge on the subject of ‘trees’ – from a preternaturally still and sunny day in the town of Chabanais.

The nearby town of Confolens abounds with photographic opportunities, especially on calm, cloudless days that produce almost flawless reflections on the River Vienne.
On the right bank of the river there are a number of these archways that provide interesting frames for the vibrant colours.

The ironwork of the main road bridge across the River Vienne in Chabanais is perfectly mirrored in the water on an exceptionally clear, still and sunny day.

A few years ago, we happened to be in the Place Collégiale, in the town of Le Dorat, just as workmen were starting to mark out some parking bays with a lot of these metal discs. As they were brand new, they had a terrific shine on them, producing some very interesting reflections of the surrounding buildings.

Going back a few years, while we were still living in Abu Dhabi and our house here was being renovated, we would spend some of our summer holidays locally. We stayed in a Chambre d’Hôtes opposite the massive Collégiale church in Le Dorat.
Looking out of our window one afternoon, I saw this reflection in the roof of a car parked just below.

The latest WordPress weekly Photo Challenge is a particularly interesting – and difficult – one. We are asked to post an image illustrating what we would rather be doing.
It seems to me that one’s starting point is crucial here. It all rather depends on what I’m doing at the time the question is posed. I can think of lots of things I might (have to) be doing where watching paint dry would be a more acceptable alternative. Equally, there are a few things I would rather be doing than just about anything else.
Neither of these categories, however, really lend themselves to being pictured – and certainly not in the public domain.
The truth is, I would probably rather be taking photographs than anything else: this is, after all, my principal interest. And if I was being more specific, it would be taking photographs of interesting doors.
So this:

The final WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge of the year is to post the ‘most meaningful’ photograph that we’ve taken in 2017.
I was surprised to discover that my Lightroom catalogue has expanded by well over 2,000 during the course of this year, so there’s plenty to choose from. I wouldn’t describe any of them as being particularly ‘meaningful’; I just enjoy ‘spotting’ images and capturing them in photographs.
Probably my favourite subject, though, is reflections, so here are two images (I coudn’t choose between them) that haven’t been posted before.
The first was taken from a boat on the River Lot in the town of Cahors and is of a buoy, which has the inestimable advantage of constituting a red foreground object. I also like the contrast between the sharpness of the buoy and the blur of the reflected trees and buildings. With a bit of post-processing, it’s also possible to see why it’s there.

The second is of the River Vienne in the town of Chabanais on a peerlessly calm and sunny day: in October, no less.

There are few things that convey a greater sense of serenity than a perfect reflection, as in this image of the River Vienne as it flows through the town of Chabanais.

Frank’s theme for this week is ‘Bridge’, so here’s a twofer: two of the bridges that span the River Lot in the town of Cahors.
This more modern road bridge isn’t too shabby, especially when the shadows make it look a little like a set of nutcrackers:

…although the famous one is the medieval Pont Valentré:
