Is it a door or is it a gate? Let’s compromise and call it a gate in a doorway.
This little grotto was said to be the dwelling place of the Christian ascetic Saint Fillan. It’s very small, which is why it’s tucked away in a a little alleyway in Pittenweem.

The best you can say about these windows is that they let the light in.
Along with everything else.
This tower is part of the ruins of the medieval castle in St. Andrews.

You may think that this image of the Firth of Forth was captured at sunset. However, it was actually taken just before noon and is looking due south from the Fife village of Pittenweem towards East Lothian in the distance.
It’s all a matter, when shooting into the sun, of keeping the sun itself out of the image.
I think it certainly fits the brief for this week’s ‘Fun Foto’ theme of ‘water, water everywhere’.

There are still a few very small family circuses doing the rounds in rural France. This one appeared for a couple of days in the local village earlier this year.

I don’t know what this bit of flora is called. It looks like a succulent of some kind and I saw it in the town of Cahors. It is definitely all one colour though.

A clever way of getting an all-round view of this elaborately decorative pendant, on display in the Victoria & Albert Museum (‘The V&A’) in London.

The Fun Foto theme for this week is a particularly interesting one: ‘future nostalgic’. For this, we are invited to select an image from our archives that we knew when we captured it we would enjoy looking at again in the future.
So here is the very first time we laid eyes on the house where we have now lived for over nine years. This was back in October 2004. We followed the agent (pictured on the right) in our own car and turned the little corner off the ‘main’ road through the hamlet that we call Tranquility Base.
Madame ‘got it’ straight away. I just saw a tumbledown money pit. It turned out we were both right, but now neither of us would want to live anywhere else.

By all means enjoy a walk along the dirt path that runs next to the Thames in Chiswick, west London. But don’t even think about firing up your barbecue.
Am I the only one who finds that egregious apostrophe really irritating? The BBQ’s what?

I discovered this tiny and very squiggly lizard when I was covering up our garden furniture for the winter. There are lizards everywhere around here but they are typically no more than three inches long and find homes in the stonework of walls and so on. They pose no threat – indeed, they feed on insects that would otherwise attack our plants, so they’re actually quite a boon.
This particular specimen, no more than an inch and a half long, was especially colourful.
